AVIEX, the Specialty Travel Tour Operator for Central America, was founded in 1996 by Mr. Bill Spohrer and Jose A. Giralt. They both have had an extensive career in the airline and travel business.
Mr Spohrer managed APSA Airlines in Peru, TAN in Honduras and LANICA in Nicaragua. He is the founder of Air Florida, Challenge Air Transport and Challenge Air Cargo, one of the largest US all cargo carriers, which was sold in 2000 to UPS. Mr. Spohrer and his wife own a property in the Central Pacific area of Costa Rica, where they live part of the year.

Mr. Giralt worked for 15 years for LACSA, the flag carrier of Costa Rica, as System Sales and Marketing Director, Personnel Director and General Manager for North America. He also served as a consultant to the Bureau of Tourism, helped to position Costa Rica as a world famous ecotourism destination, managed CR Adventure Travel, Rio Colorado Lodge, Hotel Fiesta, and also served as President of the Airline Association. He also was General Manager for Challenge Air Cargo and UPS in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and Vice President of Business Development of Global Air Service.

Mr. Spohrer is also founder of the International Explorer's Society, an organization with members worldwide dedicated to the pursuit of cultural exchange through travel. Due to Mr. Spohrer and Mr. Giralt's background and given the ever increasing attraction of Costa Rica as a tourist destination they both were receiving more and more inquiries every day from friends, colleagues in the airline industry, members of the society and corporate clients about travel tips to Costa Rica. It soon became a full time job and they decided to establish AVIEX to provide travel and consulting services with a dedicated and professional staff.

Mr. William Rodriguez, MBA, joined the agency in 2004 to further develop its marketing efforts. Mr. Rodriguez also has a very extensive background in tourism and airline management. He was Marketing Director for the Bureau of Tourism, Hotel Aurola Holiday Inn, LACSA Airlines, and General Manager for United Airlines in Costa Rica. He also served as President of the Airline Association, President of the Costa Rican Association of Professionals in Tourism, and at present is the President of the National Chamber of Tourism.
